A strong 7.9-magnitude earthquake has rocked Costa Rica, triggering a tsunami warning from Mexico to Peru, the US Geological Survey has said.
The quake hit close to Samara, a coastal area on the Pacific about 150km from the capital San Jose, on Wednesday.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala and Peru were under a tsunami warning, and a tsunami watch was in effect for Chile.
