Plane slides off taxiway, gets to gate safely

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- A Delta Airlines plane carrying 181 people slid off a taxiway Friday night at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, according to an airline spokesperson.

A Delta Air Lines spokesperson said that as the plane was taxiing to the gate, Friday night's snowfall obscured the taxiway markers, causing the plane to veer off course. The plane's left side landing gear became stuck in grass.

The pilot called for assistance, and the plane got towed to the gate safely. No injuries were reported.

Officials at the MSP Airport say Friday's snowfall is causing delays with flights both leaving and arriving.

The Federal Aviation Administration is reporting delays between 15 and 30 minutes, and they expect the delays to increase as the snow continues to fall.

Delta Air Lines has canceled nearly 40 flights Friday because of the weather. A majority of the flights were regional flights to other Midwest cities.

Officials with the airline hope to have operations back to normal by sometime Saturday morning.
