Thailand's NBTC donates Amateur Radio repeater for flood communications

The Bangkok Post reports that Thailand's NBTC has donated an amateur radio repeater for use in flood relief communications.

They say:
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) met for the first time today [Monday], and first on the agenda was how to help with flood crisis relief.

Speaking before the first meeting of the commission since the royal command was issued endorsing the appointment of its 11 members, NBTC chairman Gen Thares Punsri said it was urgent that telecommunications be improved in flood-hit areas.

He said the NBTC today gave a repeater to the Amateur Radio Operators Group of Ayutthaya to help strengthen its radio signal to cover a wider area.

Deputy chairman Col Sethapong Malisuwan said the commission would help strengthen amateur radio networks and assign community radio stations to keep the people informed of the flood situation.

Amateur radio operators can be of much help when the country is in crisis, he said.
